The 2011 Season—The Start of the League’s 2nd Decade

The league started its 2nd decade the same as it ended its first--at 40 teams for another season.  36 of the 40 teams returned from 2010 for the 2011 season and there were some new faces.  Destroyers (Joe Huey) returned after a few seasons off & 3 new teams entered: The Replacements (Brok Johnson), Hound Dogs (Jim Lara) & Rock Lobsters (Tim Brennan)  The format for the playoff & LCT changed (PO from 14 to 16 teams, LCT went from 10 to 8 teams).  Here is how the league looked for the beginning of the 2011 season:

Drafts were either a combo live/online draft (Federal) while the other 3 conferences held their draft completely on-line.  Each conference again had its own group of players & no trades would be made between conferences.

Each team had a 12 game schedule, playing each division opponent twice, playing 2 teams from the conference once each & 2 non-conference opponents once.  After week 12 went final, the playoff field was determined:

The 2011 season gave the league its 6th division champion (wild cards won the other 5 championships) with Transman’s Tarnishers coming out on top in FB X 105-100 (giving Woollard’s franchise its 2nd championship & making his the first team in league history to do so).  Of the 16 team playoff field, only 3 teams from the 2010 playoffs returned for 2011 (Otters, Juggernaut & Steamers).  Of the final 4 teams, the Stars & Tarnishers came in with prior playoff appearances (the Stars made their 1st appearance since 2002 & the Tarnishers made their 1st appearance since 2006).  The Tarnishers made their 2nd FB appearance (winning both times) & the Hound Dogs made their 1st appearance (also an expansion in 2011).  Neither the league or 2CT champion from 2010 (Blue Sun & Fuzzy Dunlop), were able to repeat as champions (Sun & Dunlop were both teams in LCT & neither advanced beyond the QF round).  The 2CT final saw Pants Party (1st appearance) face the Head Busas (2nd appearance), with Party winning the championship.  The LCT final saw the Rotting Chihuahuas defeat the returning Destroyers in a battle of 2 of the original league franchises.

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  The 11th seeded Hound Dogs advanced in the 2011 PO to the FB before losing.  The 12th seeded Head Busas advanced to the 2011 2CT final before losing.  The 8th seeded Destroyers advanced to the 2011 LCT final before losing.

No further expansion was planned for the 2012 season as the waiting list was only 1 owner by season’s end 2011.  At the end of the season, 3 of the original 12 owners from 2001 were still league owners (Pennington, Behr & Clymer) while one of the original 12 returned (Huey).

The 2012 season gave the league its 6th wild card champion (division champs cards won the other 6 championships) with Iowa Styleess coming out on top in FB XII 148-121 (giving Flanagan’s franchise its 2nd championship & making his the 2nd team in league history to do so-also the 1st owner to win a portion of 3 championships).  Of the 16 team playoff field, only 5 teams from the 2011 playoffs returned for 2012 (Eagles, Sharks, Heroes, Stylees & Steamers).  All 4 of the final 4 teams came in with prior playoff appearances (Bubbles in 2008, No Fun in 2009, Eagles & Stylees in 2011).  The Stylees made their 2nd FB appearance (winning both times) & the Eagles made their 2nd appearance (losing both times).  Neither the league or 2CT champion from 2011 (Transman’s Tarnishers & Pants Party), were able to repeat as champions (Party did come closer, reaching the finals before being eliminated).  The 2CT final saw Pants Party (2nd straight appearance) face the Hound Dogs (1st appearance), with the Hounds winning the championship.  The LCT final saw Victory is Mine defeat the Doug All Stars.

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  The 14th seeded Eagles advanced to FB XII before losing.  The 10th seeded Stylees won FB XII.  The 9th seeded Lobsters (2CT) advanced to the final 4 before losing in the SF & then the 3rd place game.  The 8th seeded Victory (LCT) won the LCT championship being the lowest seed in LCT.

No further expansion was planned for the 2013 season as the waiting list was empty by season’s end.  At the end of the season, 3 of the original 12 owners from 2001 were still league owners (Pennington, Behr & Clymer) while 2 owners from 2003 (Flanagan & E.Inman) were the longest tenured owners after those 3.

The 2013 Season—Billies capture 2nd championship

The league started its 13th season the same as it ended its prior season--40 teams for another season.  38 of the 40 teams returned for the 2013 season and there were some new faces.  BGL Braintrust saw the return of Greg Wold (co-owner with Ryan Flanagan), Rock Lobsters (Tim Brennan) moved from the Walsh to the Brown & Preseason Champs (Tate Skiba) were new to the league.  The format for the playoff & LCT was similar (PO/2CT 16 team field, LCT 8 team field). The 2013 season gave the league its 7th division champion as league champ (wild cards won the other 6 championships) with Tripping Billies coming out on top in FB XIII 119-82 (giving Inman’s franchise its 2nd championship & making his the 3rd team in league history to do so (joining John Woollard & Ryan Flanagan).  Of the 16 team playoff field, 7 teams from the 2012 playoffs returned for 2013 (Heroes, Billies, Stylees, Gamblers, Flash, Steamers, & No Fun).  The other part of the Fantasy Bowl, the Doug All Stars, made their 2nd final 4 appearance in 3 seasons (also did in 2011, where they ended up 4th place overall).  2012 league champion Iowa Stylees lost in a PO R1 game, 2012 2CT champion Hound Dogs lost in the LCT finals & Victory is Mine wasn’t in any (Harmony replaced VIM & lost in a 2CT R1 game).

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  The 10th seeded Stars advanced to FB XIII (their 1st in USFFA) before losing.  The Tripping Billies, 2013 league champion, was a #6 seed in PO.  The top 4 seeds in 2CT advanced to the final 4 & the top 2 2CT seeds faced off in the finals.  The 2CT 12th seed, Webheads, made it to the 2CT QF before being eliminated.  The LCT 6th seeded Hollows won the LCT championship while the LCT 8th seeded Rock Lobsters ended up finishing 4th out of 8 team field.

No further expansion was planned for the 2014 season as the waiting list was minimal at season’s end.  As usual, there was a few teams who left the league but most of those openings were filled as they became openings.

The 2014 Season—1st time champion for 1st time in 4 seasons

The league started its 14th season the same as it ended its prior season--40 teams for another season.  35 of the 40 teams returned for the 2014 season.  Some teams moved while others were expansions in our league.  Moving were Preseason Champs (Tate Skiba), Soviets (Josh Joslin), Sobhcak Securities (Brian Hauser), & Cleveland Steamers (Noah Retka/Tim Rothstein).  New to the league were Team Ace (Nate Wing), Dreddskins (Charles & Terri Behr), Texas Longhorns (Patty Feil), The Slinger (Tony Semmen/Doug Clymer) & The B Squad (Justin Blom).  The format for the playoff & LCT was similar (PO/2CT 16 team field, LCT 8 team field). Here is how the league looked for the beginning of the 2014 season:

The 2014 season gave the league its 8th division champion as league champ (wild cards won the other 6 championships) with The Replacements coming out on top in FB XIV 107-80 (giving Brok Johnson his 1st championship & first new champ in 4 seasons—previous 3 champions had already each won a championship prior).  Of the 16 team playoff field, 7 teams from the 2013 playoffs returned for 2014 (Heroes, Stars, Stylees, Gamblers, Replacements, Bolts, & Tigers).  The other part of the Fantasy Bowl, the Iowa Stylees, lost their 1st ever FB (after winning the previous 2 times).  2013 league champion Tripping Billies lost in a 2CT R1 game, 2013 2CT champion Italian Stallions lost in a 2CT R1 game & 2013 LCT champ Bottomless Hollows lost a PO R1 game.

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  The 15th seeded Zumbrota Tigers advanced to PO semis before losing 2 straight to finish 4th place in PO.  The Replacements, 2014 league champion, was a #5 seed in PO.  The 2CT 16th seed, RED, made it to the 2CT finals before losing (taking 2nd in 2CT).  The LCT 5th seeded Sin City Sharks made it to the LCT championship game before losing.

No further expansion is planned for the 2015 season as the waiting list was minimal at season’s end.  As usual, there was a few teams who left the league but most of those openings were filled as they became openings.

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  The 16th seeded Untouchables & the 15th seeded The Replacements both advanced to R2 of the playoffs with 1st round upsets of the #1 & #2 seeds.  The 2CT 14th seed, Head Busas, made it to the 2CT finals before losing (finished 2nd in 2CT).  The LCT 6th seeded Soviets won the LCT tourney by defeated 1st seed Chesapeake Baysiders.

No further expansion was planned for the 2017 season at end of the 2016 season.  The league experienced some teams leaving but those spots were filled by new teams prior to the start of the 2017 season.

The 2018 season gave the league its 8th wild card champion as league champ (division champion teams have won the other 10 championships) with Sobchak Securities coming out on top in FB XVIII 117-108 (giving Brian Hauser his 1st championship in his 11th season & the league’s 5th new champ in consecutive seasons).  Of the playoff field, 5 of the 16 teams from the 17 playoffs returned for 2018 (YELLOW, Untouchables, Waterboys, B Squad & Cobra).  The other part of the Fantasy Bowl, the Doug All Stars, lost in their 2nd FB appearance (Minn St Screaming Eagles also have appeared in 2 FBs).

Lower seeds pulling upsets happened in all brackets.  PO #9 Doug All Stars lost in FB 18 after upsetting the PO #1 seed.  2CT #15 Soviets lost in the 2CT championship after upsetting the 2CT #1 & #2 seeds.  LCT #7 Baker’s Benchwarmers won the LCT 3rd place game after upsetting the LCT #2 seed.

No further expansion was planned for the 2019 season.

The 2019 Season: Bracket busting postseason

The league started its 19th season the same as it ended its prior season (40 teams).   35 of the 40 teams from 2018 returned for the 2019 season.   New to the league was Okoboji Hawkeyes (John Baum), Team Schepp (Taylor Schepp), Flying Elvi (John Freiberg), Outlawz (James Carpenter) & Blomkin Bears (Justin Blom).  Due to the fact that the league was short 1 team for the 2019 season, the rule allowing a single owner to own more than 1 team on their own was waived.  House of Stewart moved from the AC-Shula to the NC-Landry as well.  Postseason formats were the same as they were for the previous season.  Here is how the league looked for the beginning of the season:

Drafts were either a combo live/online draft (Federal) while the other 3 conferences held their draft completely on-line.  Each conference again had its own group of players & no trades would be made between conferences.

Each team had a 12 game schedule, playing each division opponent twice, playing 2 teams from the conference once each & 2 non-conference opponents once.  After week 12 went final, the playoff field was determined:
